Ards International Guitar Festival is delighted to welcome, for the first time, one of the UK’s finest jazz guitar talents. Jim Mullen is a multi-award-winning artist who has collaborated over several decades with top musicians in Europe and the United States.

Over the years he has worked with a wonderful collection of artists including Mose Allison, Jimmy Smith, Gene Harris, Frank Wess, Johnny Griffin, Terry Callier, Jimmy Witherspoon, Peter Bernstein, Average White Band, Brian Auger, Georgie Fame and Claire Martin.

Jim's 15-year partnership with great UK tenor saxophonist Dick Morrissey, (Morrissey Mullen) was the leading UK jazz-fusion band during the 80s and 90s. In his own right, Jim has recorded many albums as a leader with his organ trio - and recently with his nine-piece band Volunteers.

For this concert, Jim will be in organ trio mode, with Darragh Hennessy on keys and Dominic Mullan on drums. They will be joined for a few songs by Ronnie Greer, one of the guitar masters of the Northern Ireland jazz/blues scene – and recipient of last year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jim will be facilitating a Jazz Techniques Guitar Clinic on Saturday 22 April, Ards Arts Centre, 12noon.
