Blessed with one of the biggest and most soulful voices on the island – and with a serious talent on bass, the legendary Rob Strong brings his superb band to Ards International Guitar Festival for a Saturday night show that looks set to be a barnstormer.

Former frontman for iconic Omagh-based showband The Plattermen, Rob is a legendary live performer and has recently celebrated 60 years on the road. He has also recently been the subject of the biography Still Going Strong - amid the pages are acclamations from some of the biggest names in the music business.

‘One of the true originals,’ says Paul Brady, while Horslips frontman Barry Devlin adds: ‘Rob Strong would have been a big hero of mine back in the day. I was starting to be a bass player myself, but he was on a different level. The thing about Rob is, he’s a serious package - bass chops, voice and presence.’ For Mary Coughlan, Rob Strong is ‘an incredible singer, an amazing talent,’ and guitar legend Eric Bell feels the same: ‘Rob Strong is a fabulous musician- a great bass player and one hell of a singer.’
